PS4 Fan Control payload (by ethylamine) - 5.05 & 4.74 FW Support

One of the great aspects of the hacking & homebrew community is about giving the user control/access of your hardware Here is one example why this can be important, adjusting the Fan Speed to better suit your environment has always been a way to help reduce the risk of overheating and console death's , "Overheating is the #1 cause of electronic death" according to "doctors" at psx-place university (lol) and just like how the PS3's fan control actually saved consoles and extended the life of the hardware. The PS4 has a new solution that hopes to achieve the same as developer ethylamine has just released a payload for controlling and adjusting your fan speed based on a desired temperature, this payload has been titled PS4 Fan Control for 5.05 Support, but for those of you on 4.74, don't worry as @kozarovv has you covered with a port for 4.74.as well .

PS4-fan-control(5.05)
Simple payload to increase fan speeds based on temperature threshold.
Set to 60 degrees C by default. Will be somewhat loud.

UPDATE COBRA v8.01 Released (via habib)

COBRA 8.01: small version increment, massive overhaul

    • Added support for dynamic memory payloads, 5 of them can be started from "/dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_kernel.txt"
    • toolchain updated to support dynamic address loading.
    • For applications, you can also mount em, and unmount em separately

his poc will read payload.bin from usb000, execute it and write memory residence location in file in hdd0/residence and then unloads the plugin.

alternatively you can copy payload.bin and boot_plugins_kernel.txt in hdd0, restart and voila!

this is true dynamic loading, just like prx!
src of payload.bin is included with the cfw download

ofcourse safety features are included, plugins wont load till vsh appear, you can go to recovery mode, rebuild database to remove the boot_plugins_kernel.txt

in a program, with residence memory location acquired, one can send arguments to the payload using syscall 15

    4.84.2

PS4 6.20 WebKit Exploit Released by @SpecterDev (Patched for System Firmware 6.50)

The PS4 might get some attention again. After the last few weeks, where we saw multiple Homebrew Releases - such as a updated Linux Distribution for your PS4, various Homebrew Games for your PS4, Emulators for playing older Classics on your PS4 and other useful Homebrew Applications, which makes your PS4 more useful for you - today, Developer @SpecterDev released a new WebKit Exploit for a newer System Firmware, namely for System Firmware 6.20. Although this Exploit isn't a complete Kernel Exploit together with the fact that this Remote Code Execution Exploit has been already patched by Sony on the newest System Firmware 6.50 released a few days ago, it is still a useful method to tinker more with this specific System Firmware, as Developer @SpecterDev describes it with his own words, which you can see down below. This can be especially useful for Developers, who wants to tinker with older System Firmwares as well, such as for System Firmware 5.55 for instance. Maybe we can see a newer full Kernel Exploit for a newer System Firmware released sooner or later.

It can be useful to update to System Firmware 6.20 sooner or later.

PS4 6.20 WebKit Code Execution PoC

This repo contains a proof-of-concept (PoC) RCE exploit targeting the PlayStation 4 on firmware 6.20 leveraging CVE-2018-4441. The exploit first establishes an arbitrary read/write primitive as well as an arbitrary object address leak in wkexploit.js. It will then setup a framework to run ROP chains in index.html and by default will provide two hyperlinks to run test ROP chains - one for running the sys_getpid() syscall, and the other for running the sys_getuid() syscall to get the PID and user ID of the process respectively.

Each file contains a comment at the top giving a brief explanation of what the file contains and how the exploit works. Credit for the bug discovery is to lokihardt from Google Project Zero (p0). The bug report can be found here.

Note: It's been patched in the 6.50 firmware update.

    Files - Files in order by name alphabetically;

    •     index.html - Contains post-exploit code, going from arb. R/W -> code execution.
    •     rop.js - Contains a framework for ROP chains.
    •     syscalls.js - Contains an (incomplete) list of system calls to use for post-exploit stuff.
    •     wkexploit.js - Contains the heart of the WebKit exploit.

    Notes

    •     This vulnerability was patched in 6.50 firmware!
    •     This only gives you code execution in userland. This is not a jailbreak nor a kernel exploit, it is only the first half.
    •     This exploit targets firmware 6.20. It should work on lower firmwares however the gadgets will need to be ported, and the p.launchchain() method for code execution may need to be swapped out.
    •     In my tests the exploit as-is is pretty stable, but it can become less stable if you add a lot of objects and such into the exploit. This is part of the reason why syscalls.js contains only a small number of system calls.

    Usage

    Setup a web-server hosting these files on localhost using xampp or any other program of your choosing. Additionally, you could host it on a server. You can access it on the PS4 by either;

    1.     Fake DNS spoofing to redirect the manual page to the exploit page, or
    2.     Using the web browser to navigate to the exploit page (not always possible).

    Vulnerability Credit

    • I wrote the exploit however I did not find the vulnerability, as mentioned above the bug (CVE-2018-4441) was found by lokihardt from Google Project Zero (p0) and was disclosed via the Chromium public bug tracker.

Team REBUG just recently released 4.84 REBUG LITE Edition just the other day. Now,since that time the team has aquired all the resources needed for the creation of 4.84.1 REBUG REX Custom firmware . Now that the testing phase has concluded, the team has now released 4.84 REX version of their famed Custom Firmware for the PS3. What makes REX different from LITE is that Lite is made of only CEX (retail) firmware and REX contains both retail firmware and then also contains debug (DEX) firmware elements as well. To create this powerful hybrid custom firmware. Which expands the feature list over any other CFW type with the included REBUG Toolbox (requires pkg installation),

The updated Cobra payload of v8.00/1 that made its recent debut in habib's 4.84 Starbuged CFW has also been bundled with this latest version of REBUG REX. One of the highlights of the version 8.0 progression of the Cobra payload has been a new feature allowing Kernel payload support via plugin developed by habib, The update to Cobra also brought a number of new improvements besides that lone feature, other feature consist of a much faster boot time on start up as in Cobra 8.00+ stage 1 has been removed. Then also in this version of REX you should note COBRA is ENABLED by default where as in previous versions of REX it has not been and required a toggled "ON" via the REBUG Toolbox, that is no more, in this version its enabled "out of the box" and ready to go

About: "Auto CONFIG" for PS2 ISO

A new feature in webMAN MOD 1.47.12 with the objective of increase PS2 compatibility to a similar level of ManaGunZ

This build now detects the game id for the PS2 ISO and automatically looks for the corresponding CONFIG file in ManaGunZ folder or in the wMM updater folder /dev_hdd0/game/UPDWEBMOD (if it haven't been deleted by the user) when the game is mounted.

Added new setting: "Auto CONFIG" in /setup.ps3 (next to the option PLAYSTATION®2, in the section "Scan for content")

Now webMAN MOD looks for the CONFIG file in the following paths (in this order) when the PS2 ISO is mounted and the "Auto CONFIG" is enabled (only if the PS2 ISO doesn't have a CONFIG file already):

        /dev_hdd0/game/PS2CONFIG/.CONFIG

        /dev_hdd0/game/PS2CONFIG/CONFIG/CUSTOM/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/PS2CONFIG/CONFIG/NET/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/PS2CONFIG/CONFIG/GX/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/PS2CONFIG/CONFIG/SOFT/.CONFIG

        /dev_hdd0/game/MANAGUNZ0/CONFIG/CUSTOM/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/MANAGUNZ0/CONFIG/NET/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/MANAGUNZ0/CONFIG/GX/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/MANAGUNZ0/CONFIG/SOFT/.CONFIG

        /dev_hdd0/game/UPDWEBMOD/CONFIG/CUSTOM/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/UPDWEBMOD/CONFIG/NET/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/UPDWEBMOD/CONFIG/GX/.CONFIG
        /dev_hdd0/game/UPDWEBMOD/CONFIG/SOFT/.CONFIG

For convenience of the users, the updater includes a copy of the database of CONFIG files from ManaGunZ (in case the user doesn't have ManaGunZ installed). Credits to @Zar and everyone who have contributed to maintain the database of CONFIG.

If the PS2 ISO already has a CONFIG associated, that file is used without having to perform the aforementioned search.

PS3 New update CFW 4.84.3 STARBUGED (w/ COBRA 8.01) By Habib

    4.84.3 Starbuged + Cobra v8.01 CFW

Following the introduction 4.84 STARBUGED CFW for the PS3, which also gave us the introduction of Cobra v8.0x from developer @habib, Has now followed up that cfw release with 4.84.3 STARBUGED (w/ Cobra 8.01), the developer has provided a rundown of what has been added and its usage. I am cutting this news off a bit short (for now) as i need some much needed rest, was about to log off and seen habib had posted something. Seen what he had posted so i figured i post something quickword out about his latest advancement.

    What's New in 4.84.3?

    1. Hardcoded kernel plugin
    2. Whole kernel 8mb is RWX including kernel alloc. you can use sc15 alloc, copy payload and execute like that as well but its better to use opcodes for kernel plugins
    3. Fixed minor bug in non cobra sc15

    what does it do?

    • it loads plugins from /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins_nocobra.txt and boot_plugins_kernel_nocobra.txt
    • it fixes issue where nocobra and hdd format will make ps2 not work on bc/semi-bc

    what plugins can do?

    • load mamba and isolate cobra functions, modify it. e.g ps3mapi without cobra. i hate cobra being bloated with homebrew blockers etc

    for devs:

    • for mamba payload hdd0 is already mounted, prefer to load your code in main() instead of using the cellfsutil hook...regardless mamba works 90%
    • also dont forget to remove dev_hdd0/tmp/loadoptical flag for bc and semi-bc ps3

NOTE: cobra plugins will NOT work when cobra disabled

PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) 4.84.1 - PS3Xploit HAN & Flash Tools Restored for 4.84 OFW users

    (UPDATE) 4.84.2 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - Restores PS3Xploit Flasher/Tools & PS3Xploit HAN got 4.84 OFW user's

Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.

So, what does all this mean? Now Its just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was patched you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files), @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) and the PS3Xploit

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort..

Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models.

(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)

Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
    ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?

    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
(The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
https://t.co/Qc19fWnmfs< here's the latest ps3xploit that works on this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.

    To all scener's and developers

Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

    PS3Xploit 4.84 HFW NOR/NAND Flash Writer + IDPS/Flash Dumpers (v2.0.1)

A Huge PS3 exploit was recently restored on the console when the release of 4.84 HFW (hybrid firmware) was released to the scene. This paved the way to re-activate PS3Xploit Hacks (from 4.82) as this hybrid firmware was able to take the 4.82 webkit and inject into a 4.84 official firmware and then the key was able to still install on any PS3 model running any PS3 firmware,. So this became quite useful, out of the gate the HAN (etHANol) tools were updated and ready to go however the CFW Flash Writer and Flash / IDPS Dumper's needed some additional testing to ensure quality. I am pleased to announce the wait is now over and the team is now releasing the PS3Xploit Flash Writer and Flash/IDPS Dumping Tools which the important flash writer makes it possible to install a CFW from the 4.84 OFW once the hybrid firmware is installed., This exploit and tools were patched in 4.83 firmware but now is back and roaring in 4.84 and is sure to be patched again when 4.85 is released..

Following the release of 4.84.1 REX a new update has been made by Team Rebug with the release of 4.82.4 REBUG REX (& D-REX) with the inclusion of COBRA v8.1 that we seen debut in @Joonie's latest PASTA (DEX) COBRA CFW. This update also corrects a long-standing bug (7 years) that resided in Rebug when trying to install in some region via Recovery Mode. Also PS3Xploit Support has been added (mostly for developer use), these features in REBUG REX and various fixes/changes can be seen below. Along with an overview of features REBUG REX can offer.

    What’s new
    - Installation issue fix (This has been bugged for the past 7 years due to missing the license agreement for 3 languages including English[UK], Brazilian Portuguese and Turkish. Certain users used to have a problem installing REBUG while on recovery mode, and this is finally resolved!) *no more data corruption error!*
    - Font fix: (some old games that use system font now display all letters correctly, Polish letter fix is removed due to this change )
    - PS3Xploit support: (The old webkit is brought back to allow PS3Xploit support, HAN can be used)
    - REBUG TOOLBOX 2.03.02 MULTI 16 (PS2 Emu swapper’s removed as this became obsolete since Cobra 8.1)
    - Cobra 8.1 (Enabled by Default) source available via this link (Stage0 now supports kernel & VSH plugin on both Cobra and non-Cobra mode, loadoptical flag(for BC and SemiBC) is created at all time as long as stage2 is disabled, this is only beneficial to BC/Semi-BC users for those who don’t use COBRA)

Sneak peak of upcoming PS4 (media) Player by Lapy

Developer Lapy05575948 has been working on several homebrew's and ports for the PS4 using Unity 3d, we have seen the developer released various games like El Pollo 2.0 & Lapy's Chicken , but then the dev also developed a game called Save the Scene which was an original concept for the PS4 (now also ported to the PS Vita). In the recent weeks the developer turned attention to a utility, that being a file manager for the PS4. The app which was called Windows Explorer (v1.00-.05) originally and since has been renamed more appropriately PS4 Xplorer in recent updates (stating from v1.06). The homebrew is still in the BETA stage but progressing well as the developer has released multiple updates for the file manager (v1.10 currently) adding features like multilingual support / FTP Support and all the essentials for file management on the PS4.. This Homebrew runs on exploited console on firmware's 5.07 / 5.05 / 5.01 / 4.75 or 4.55 firmware Follow all the previous progress of changes in the changelogs provided below.

But wait that is not all the developer has in store for us, as another project is also in the works for the PS4., A very cool project (Ps4 Player), while its not released yet the developer is giving plenty of progress reports and some sneak peak video demos of an upcoming media player, Checkout the details and demonstrations in the tab below

    1.10 change log:

    - supported lower firmwares besides 5.05 (4.55, 4.75, 5.01)
    - supported read info from .sfo and .pkg files.
    - supported .dds images.
    - fixed some Polish phraces.
